Special to the AmNews

She’s baaack! It’s been 10 years, but the fast-talking, hair-cutting, weave-weavers at Calvin Barbershop are back with full comedic force and that includes Terri (Eve), who is now married to co-worker Rashad—played by Common—a newcomer to the “Barbershop” repertory.

The balancing act of career and parenthood isn’t easy, and when the issues are in full display of a very “concerned” cast of characters, the advice—wrapped in comedy—is plentiful.

Here is what Eve had to share about working with Ice Cube and why she still “loves the smell of fresh pressed hair.”

AmNews: The “Barbershop: The Next Cut” has been described as a “crazy vortex.” Thoughts?

Eve: Really? That sounds serious.

I live in the vortex called Harlem and where there is hair involved, it brings divas and drama. The smell of burning hair and “funny cigarettes” is the perfume of my memories.

I actually love that smell [too]. I love the smell of a hot comb or a flat iron. I swear, it’s crazy but I do.

You are a veteran of this franchise. What is fun about working with Ice Cube?

Well, I always joke and say that ‘I am really scared of Ice Cube’ because he is so serious, but he’s the best. He’s the nicest, coolest person ever, but at the same time, you know that he expects—from himself—a level of excellence and a level of professionalism. So you don’t ever want to show up on set and not have your [act] together. You don’t want to be the reason that something is going late because [you’re] late.

On my first movie, [Ice Cube] pulled me aside and gave me business advice. Just out of nowhere. He asked me, “How is the business? How are you doing?” I thought it was the sweetest thing in the world. He’s just always been that person. It’s always an honor and a pleasure to work with him.

He’s like the big brother.

Any plans to return to TV?

Yes. This time around, I will be more involved in the process, and I am looking forward to the challenge. This is an exciting time and I love to learn.

“Barbershop: The Next Cut” opens nationwide April 15, 2016.
