Soul singer Billy Paul, best known for the hit song “Me and Mrs. Jones,” has died. Paul passed away in his home in Blackwood, N.J. from cancer. He was 81.
Reports indicate Paul was was recently taken to Temple University Hospital one week before his death.
Born in Philadelphia, Paul released 15 albums over the course of his career. He is among many artists associated with the Philadelphia Soul sound during the 1970s.
His most famous single was the hit song “Me and Mrs. Jones.” The song was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks and topped the Billboard R&B chart for four weeks in 1972. The song also earned Paul a Grammy Award.
The family will announce funeral arrangements in the coming days, according to Paul’s manager.
