Thousands of fans came to “party like it’s 1999” Monday night at the Harlem State Office Building plaza to celebrate late superstar Prince.

The event was presented by 107.5 FM WBLS and hosted by Ade Williams of the Apollo Theater. Prince music was played along with music videos and movies on a Jumbotron.

Among those also taking the stage included singer Melissa Morgan, Assemblyman Keith Wright, jazz flutist Bobbi Humphrey, Ralph McDaniels from Video Music Box, radio personality Bob Lee and others. Monday’s event was also hosted by the Harlem Music Festival, the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce and Harlem Summerstage.

Famed baker Cake Man Raven created a large size Red Velvet Cake in the shape of Prince’s signature guitar. Free slices were handed out to revelers.

Prince died on Thursday, April 21 at his home in Minneapolis, Minn. at the age of 54. A private memorial service was held on Saturday.
