Springfield Gardens Intermediate School 59, in partnership with the I.S. 59 PTA, P.S. 132Q (The Ralph Bunche School), Jamaica YMCA, New York State Sen. Leroy Comrie, Our Brothers Guardian, Inc. and EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care, will host the third annual I.S. 59 Community Health and Educational Fair and “The Men Rising” Conference at 132-55 Ridgedale St., Springfield Gardens, N.Y. from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016.

This totally free community-wide event, open to the public, will offer numerous health screenings and consultations (dental, chiropractic, HIV/AIDS, hep-C, blood pressure and mammogram screenings provided by the Italian American Cancer Foundation). There will be state, city and community agency representation, free lunch, many giveaways, exercise classes (ShapeUp NYC Zumba from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.), music, a bouncy house, games, prizes, arts and crafts and free neck/shoulder massages. The FDNY will also distribute free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Workforce 1 and the Southern Queens Park Association will be onsite to discuss and offer job opportunities and training, as well.

The afternoon will also include “The Solutions Workshop” panel discussion, sponsored by Our Brothers Guardian, and the mentoring program “Education State of Emergency” with NYC DOE District 29 Superintendent Lenon Murray, District 29 principals and family advocates from 1-3 p.m.
