Three friends banded together to travel throughout America and investigate whether ghosts exist. Friday, April 15, Destination America premiered the six-part series, “Ghost Brothers.” The show focuses on three African-American men who are eagerly investigating areas where there have been claims of paranormal activity. “Ghost Brothers” highlights TV’s first African-American paranormal investigation team, and the members put a unique spin on the ghost-hunting genre by showcasing their personalities and their humor.
The trio consists of three best friends—Marcus Harvey, Dalen Spratt and Juwan Mass, each of whom has his own personal interest in paranormal activity.
Spratt is usually the one who organizes the investigations. After being raised in a religious household, he realized that there must be a higher spiritual power.
Since childhood, Mass has had an interest in paranormal activity. When he was younger he would often go ghost hunting in graveyards and experience strange weather patterns. Ever since then, his curiosity around abnormal experiences has amplified.
Harvey is the newest member. After sharing his paranormal personal experience, he decided to join the team. Harvey is often playful and humorous in his investigations. “The response that we’ve received from our families and friends was more like, ‘Make sure you don’t bring back any evil spirits on your adventures,’ than anything else,” Harvey said.
“We definitely felt the pressure of being the first African-American paranormal activity team,” said Mass. “And not only that but we bring an urban and humorous mix to it.”
The AmNews was invited to a private screening in April. The screening was well attended and filled with people who were excited to see the rest of the series. Spratt told the audience about his first personal experience of abnormal activities. “All I can remember was when my friend’s eyes lit up and his mouth dropped as the doors of the church opened and no one was there.” Spratt continued to talk about how the idea came to him in the middle of the night. “I went into Juwan’s room and woke him up. And I told him that I wanted to document their paranormal activity adventures.”
The trio told the audience, “We enjoy working with Destination America because they do not limit us and we are able to be ourselves.” Altgough last Friday was the season finale on Destination America, the team said that they had fun filming and promoting the show. They hope they will be renewed for a new season.
