The Brooklyn Museum will open its doors for a very important conversation this weekend. An anti-gentrification and displacement forum will be held for the Brooklyn community by collaborating organizations Artists of Color Bloc, B.A.N., MTOPP and Agitprop exhibition artists.
July 10 from noon to 5 p.m. in the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, the two overlapping issues will be discussed and explored in great detail. The afternoon will be filled with panel discussions and small group dialogues that delve into the conflicts and misfortunes that occur within minority communities. However, there will also be discussions about how to counter these threats. Strategies about preserving minority neighborhoods will be shared as will information from community groups. In addition, community building workshops will also be available for teenagers.
Speakers like Tom Angotti (Hunter College), Alicia Boyd (Movement to Protect the People), Cathy Dang (CAAV Organizing Asian Communities), Havanna Fisher (artist), Catherine Green (Arts East New York), Imani Henry (Brooklyn Anti-gentrification Network, B.A.N.), Rene Kathawala (Task Force for a Safe School), Rob Robinson (Take Back the Land), Elizabeth C. Yeampierre (UPROSE) and a variety of artists, activists and community.
There will be an opening musical performance by Calpulli Tlet Papalotzin and a dance performance by the Monsters of Brooklyn at the event. Artist Havanna Fisher will also be in attendance to share her thoughts and concerns on the panel.
