Almost every week in July, there is a festival going on within the five boroughs. In the spirit of Independence Day, this past weekend it was the annual International Arts Festival at the Navy Yard in Brooklyn. This festival celebrates African, Caribbean and African-American artifacts. Along with selling artifacts, vendors also sell clothing and ethnic food.
Just like BAM’s international street festival, Go Africa Network Inc. will be hosting the Go Africa Harlem Street Festival to celebrate the importance of African merchandise. The festival will also have health and wellness services, financial services and city agency services. This celebration is taking place on 116th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues. The Go Africa Network Inc. is a nonprofit organization that focuses on education, trade and development. They are also affiliated with organizations such as The African Union Expo, ASG Global Trade Inc. and Go Caribbean Inc. This celebration will take place from July 16, 2016 -10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
After the street festival, the Miss Cote d’Ivoire USA leadership pageant will be held. The Miss Cote D’Ivoire USA and Canada Leadership pageants have been held since 2009. The leadership pageants guide young Ivorian women toward pursuing their dreams in entertainment while celebrating their African heritage. This pageant is the third Côte D’Ivoire Amerique Leadership Pageant. Tickets to this event are $25 when purchased in advance and $35 at the door. The pageant will take place from 7 p.m. to midnight.
