People’s Organization for Progress Chairman Lawrence Hamm is giving a report on last week’s historic Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia and he said, “We have a lot to talk about.”
Hamm is giving his report at the P.O.P. general assembly meeting at Abyssinian Baptist Church, located at 224 W. Kinney St. in Newark Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Serving as a delegate for Sen. Bernie Sanders, Hamm was one of the first prominent African-American leaders to endorse Sanders, who lost the nomination to Hillary Clinton.
At last week’s DNC, delegates staged a walkout during the convention after Clinton was officially nominated as the Democratic candidate. Controversy stemmed from a scandal in which thousands of emails were released by Wikileaks alleging that Democratic leaders showed favoritism for Clinton over Sanders during the primary campaign.
Hamm said that he plans to vote for Clinton.
“I’m going to follow the guidance of the standard-bearer Bernie Sanders, and I’m going to vote for Hillary Clinton,” he said. “It’s a choice between neofascism, Donald Trump, and neoliberalism, Hillary Clinton. Donald Trump must be defeated, and not just defeated, he must be defeated decisively.”
