Montclair’s Minority Police Officer Association is preparing for their ninth annual Free School Supplies event, scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., in Glenfield Park.
Sentinels 16 officers will be on hand to distribute free school supplies to Montclair families. The event is sponsored by the organization and community partners, including Montclair Education Association, the Montclair Neighborhood Development Corp. and the local Fraternal Order of Police.
“This event was started by the Sentinels nine years ago in an effort to assist those that were less fortunate in the community in preparation for the upcoming school year,” said Police Lieutenant Tyrone Williams. “The event has grown tremendously thanks to the partnership and collaboration of many community organizations. Last year more than 400 children were provided with a book bag and school supplies.”
In addition, there will be a community cookout for the children and their families with hot dogs, hamburgers, ribs and other refreshments, as well as games for the children.
