The Newark Street Academy is a program targeting disengaged young people ages 16-24 who are out of school and without jobs. The program of re-engagement includes social, emotional and academic learning and guidance, community involvement and outreach, volunteerism, mentorship and cultural exposure.

“Dropping out of school should not mean dropping out of life or dropping out of hope. The Newark Street Academy puts disengaged youth on a path to a fulfilling life, a solid education, a good job and involvement with the community,” said Mayor Ras Baraka.

The Newark Street Academy runs four programs annually in four separate back-to-back 12-week sessions with 15 per session serving out-of-school youth who have not succeeded in a traditional academic environment. It offers participants educational training, job training and social-emotional preparation so that they can graduate school and launch their careers.
