Greetings! September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, officially recognized by the federal government in 1983. National Sickle Cell Awareness Month calls attention to sickle cell disease, a genetic disease that researchers estimate affects between 90,000 and 100,000 Americans.

Here in New York City, join the Sickle Cell Thallasemia Patients Network to Walk for Sickle Cell, Saturday, Sept. 17, center row next to the band shell in Central Park. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the walk begins at 11 a.m. Grand Marshall for the walk is Brother Fatiyn Muhammed, executive producer/Open Line on WBLS-FM and the Rev.
