When you were a child, did you look forward to the holiday season because you knew that Channel 2 was going to run “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer?” I know I did. I loved everything about the holiday TV special. Well, you have a short time left to see the story come to life on the stage at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, where “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical” is playing, but only through Dec. 18.

All of your favorite characters are there: Rudolph, Hermey, Yukon Cornelius, Clarise, Donner, Mrs. Donner, Santa Claus, the Snowman who narrates, the elves and of course the Abominable Snowman, along with others. Yes, the production is a little cheesy, but it’s adorably cheesy. The songs we all love are performed just as you remember them and they are fun to see and hear. The scenes are still touching live (for me, even more so because I knew they were coming).

This musical pays close attention to the details the audience will know and appreciate.

It is definitely a nice holiday production to take the youngsters to. You will notice a bit of untraditional casting, but you’ll find that it works in the end. At the conclusion of the production there’s a sing-a-long to the signature song, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and believe me, it is very enjoyable.
