Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, the Workforce 1 Career Center will host a job fair. It will be taking place at the East New York Restoration Center LDC (1159 Elton St., Brooklyn, N.Y.). At the fair jobs offerings will include teaching positions and management. This event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All who participate are asked to look professional and have a resume on hand. The East New York Restoration Center is known for teaming up with organizations such as Man Up! Inc. and hosting employment fairs. They have programs such as Ready 4 Work, which gives people an opportunity to learn skills toward employment readiness. They believe urban communities such as East New York should support one another and increase business opportunities.
After the death of 8-year-old Dasean Hill in 2005, who was killed by a stray bullet while walking home from school with his stepfather and siblings, and a recent report that said African-American men are the highest percentage of the unemployed, community activist A.T. Mitchell started Man Up! Inc. His organization focuses on anti-gun violence and promoting employment opportunities in East New York. Together with East New York Restoration Center LDC, Man Up! Inc. wants to help community members have the best opportunities available.
