The Schomburg Center hosted their 5th annual Black Comic Book Festival, expanded over two days. Comic fans of all ages thronged the colorful and informative event, which included many panels, booklets, festival T-shirts, authors, designers, illustrators and fellow aficionados.

The festival was co-founded by Deirdre Hollman, director of Education and Exhibitions, Jerry Craft (“Mama’s Boyz” and “The Offenders”), John Jennings (“Black Kirby”/UC Riverside), and Jonathan Gayles (Georgia State University).  Panels included “Youth Program: My Creative Life in Comics and Kid Lit,” “How to Draw Afrakan Superheroes” (lecture/demonstration), “Tribute to Jackie Ormes,” “First Black Syndicated Comic ‘Torchy Brown’” and “Black Heroes Matter.”
