Paris Jackson, the daughter of the late phenomenal King of Pop, Michael Jackson, is Lee Daniel’s next star. The talented 18-year-old beauty met with the “Empire” director recently for a screen test to appear on his new Fox drama, “Star,” and landed a role. According to reports, Jackson has already begun filming the show, which stars Queen Latifah, Lenny Kravitz and Benjamin Bratt, in Atlanta. So far, 2017 has started off with a bang for Michael’s only daughter. She shot an ad for Chanel in Paris, attended Paris Fashion Week and appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone.
Jan. 29 was a great night for African-American actors in Hollywood at the Screen Actors Guild. Two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington took home his first SAG Award ever for Best Actor for “Fences”; Viola Davis made history by becoming the first African-American woman to win a fifth SAG Award, Best Supporting Actress for “Fences”; “Hidden Figures” won the Best Cast Ensemble; and Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor for “Moonlight.” Like Janelle Monae, Ali has roles in both “Moonlight” and “Hidden Figures,” which were both nominated in the Best Picture category for an Oscar. In “Hidden Figures,” Ali plays the military officer who marries Taraji P. Henson’s character, Katherine Johnson. In “Moonlight,” he plays Juan, a drug dealer who becomes a father figure for young Chiron.
Tongues are wagging that “Vivica’s Black Magic” star Vivica A. Fox was among the celebs at Jennifer Lopez’s and exquisite shoe designer Giuseppe Zanotti’s launch for their new shoe collaboration at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills, Calif. Other celebs attending included rapper French Montana and “Being Mary Jane” and “Rosewood” star Lisa Vidal. JLo named each design in the shoe collection after female members of her family.
