Saturday, March 11, 2017, the World Community of Social Workers hosted its 34th Annual Whitney M. Young Jr. Equal Justice for Children Tribute. This date marks the 46th anniversary of Whitney M. Young’s untimely death in Nigeria, West Africa, while attending a conference sponsored by the African-American Institute. The tribute was held at MIST HARLEM. Young served as director of the National Urban League, and with his position with the National Association of Social Workers, they became a powerful force within the profession and the community. The Hon. Betty Staton, retired Family Court judge and president of the Brooklyn Legal Services, received the Whitney M. Young Jr. acknowledgement award.
