Organized by the Malcolm X Commemoration Committee and the Sons of Afrika (, the annual visit to Malcolm X’s gravesite in Hartsdale, N.Y., will occur Friday, May 19. Every year since the assassination of Malcolm Shabazz, Pan-Africans meet to show respect to him and the gravesite he now shares with Dr. Betty Shabazz. The ceremony was established by Malcolm X’s sister, Ella Little-Collins.

In celebration of Malcolm X’s 92nd birthday, Amarachi Restaurant will be screening “Malcolm’s Echo: The Legacy of Malcolm X,” a film that was directed by British-Nigerian filmmaker Dami Akinnusi-Rock.

The busy, Brooklyn-based mom of two is a recent winner of the African Movie Academy Award for Best Documentary. After the screening, there will be a panel discussion of filmmakers, guest speakers and entrepreneurs. There will also be a poetry performance by Abiodun of The Last Poets. The door opens at 5 p.m. for dinner and drinks, and the film screening is free at 7 p.m.

Amarachi Restaurant is located at 189 Bridge St. in Brooklyn.
