It’s official: Mobb Deep’s Prodigy’s funeral service will be held in New York City Thursday, June 29. It is being held at Frank E. Campbell, also known as “The Funeral Chapel,” at 1076 Madison Ave., New York, according to the Billboard website. This event is dedicated to Albert “Prodigy” Johnson, who died at the age of 42 after losing a battle with sickle cell anemia.
The service will be open to the public from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Family, friends and fans will be allowed to send their final goodbyes to the hip-hop legend.
Eminem has sent out his condolences to Prodigy’s death, stating, “I just want to say rest in peace to Prodigy. We love you homie. Hip-hop loves you. You will forever be missed.” Other celebrities had expressed their grief and shock such as Nas, Nicki Minaj, 2 Chainz, Raekwon and Lil Kim.
Lil Kim expressed her grief regarding Prodigy’s death, stating, “This week, hip-hop suffered a painful loss, with the sudden passing of our brother, Prodigy. His pen painted vivid pictures of street life. He made what was ugly sound beautiful.”
A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip dedicated his two-hour “Beats 1” radio show to Prodigy, while the rapper’s long-term Mobb Deep partner, Havoc, expressed his shock and sadness in a video obtained by TMZ. “I’m still just f* up,” Havoc said. “I can’t even listen to ‘Shook Ones’ or any song. I can hardly look at the pictures…I still can’t believe it.”
Prodigy died June 20. His last performance was June 17.
