Greetings! In the aftermath of “Mandela Day” (July 18), the worldwide acknowledgment of Nelson “Madiba” Mandela, we join the world in celebrating this “world champion of human rights,” whose light continues to shine around the planet. The call is for everyone to do just one thing every day that can make a difference in someone’s life.

The third Memorial Anniversary of the late Eric Garner took place last Friday at The House of the Lord Church (415 Atlantic Ave., Brooklyn, N.Y.). Attending the event were Gwen Carr (the mother of Eric Garner), Kadiatou Diallo (the mother of Amadou Diallo) and Valerie Bell (the mother of Sean Bell). The Rev. Dr. Herbert Daughtry, “The People’s Pastor,” national presiding minister of The House of the Lord Churches, hosted the event.
