Sen. Bernie Sanders speech will begin at 2:40 p.m. EDT
U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders plans to address the Republicans’ agenda at the NAACP national convention in Baltimore on Monday.
During the Federal Legislative and Public Policy Workshop, Sanders will urge people to “stop worrying about Trump’s tweets, and pay attention to the actual legislation he is supporting.” He will highlight Republicans’ effort to throw 22 million Americans off health insurance and call for a Medicare-for-all, single-payer system to guarantee health care to all as a right.
“This legislation would result in the unnecessary deaths of thousands of Americans every single year,” Sanders said. “Together, we must defeat this bill and move forward in joining every other major country on earth in making health care a right, not a privilege through a Medicare for All, single payer program.”
The NAACP is in the middle of its 108th National Convention. The five-day event is being held at the Baltimore Convention Center with the theme “Steadfast and Immovable.”
