Looking to build a network among other entrepreneurs within their community, the Nola D Collective will be hosting a fundraiser brunch at the 3 Black Cats Cafe. The fundraiser brunch (Oct. 14, 3 Belmont Ave., Brooklyn, noon to 4 p.m.) is aimed at helping Black aspiring entrepreneurs. Nola Asantewaa, organizer and founder of Nola D Collective, said that Black businesses are welcomed to attend the event. For the past three years, the Nola D Collective has mentored local Black businesses by providing entrepreneurship opportunities and empowerment workshops. Former army veteran Asantewaa started the coalition to promote economic growth within the African-American community. Asantewaa believes it is important to build a network among aspiring Black entrepreneurs within the community. “It is significant to support Black-owned businesses in order to stimulate an economically stronger community,” Asantewaa said. “As our businesses grow we will be able to control what is going on in our community, provide employment opportunities for our people and make sure these businesses remain fixtures in the community.”
Asantewaa said that she “is passionate about the empowerment and uplifting of our communities. We recognize that a crucial part of this is supporting our local businesses and creating entrepreneurship programs within our communities. We provide business development resources and promotional services for local Black-owned business to ensure they thrive and remain fixtures in the community.
Nola D Collective takes pride in providing quality services to our community. We would like the businesses we develop to resonate with that as well. We provide resources to assist in expanding and growing each business with the goal of creating job opportunities within the community.”
Asantewaa encourages
people to be a part of the Nola D Collective. With membership, members are able to be a part of business and financial literacy workshops. Some of the financial literacy workshops include marketing strategies, tax compliances, commercial leasing and licensing and permits for their business. They also provide children’s science workshops. At the fundraiser there will be live performances, raffle tickets and a special surprise. Asantewaa remarked, “We hope that our attendees are well-informed about the local Black-owned businesses in the community and will continue to support them as we do!”
