Dick Gregory (247204)

The years 2017 has truly been one of the most dramatic years that we’ve experienced in a long time. To the disappointment, shock and dismay of many throughout the country, Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States. Former San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick initiated a brand-new form of activism by taking a knee during the national anthem to protest the deaths of Black men and women at the hands of law enforcement. And bombshell allegations of sexual abuse brought men from the world of sports, politics and entertainment to the demise of their empires and employment.

We lost great entertainers such as Dick Gregory, Chuck Berry, Della Reese, Earle Hyman. Robert Guillaume, Mobb Deep’s Prodigy, The Main Ingredient’s Cuba Gooding Sr. and Charlie Murphy. But, with death came life, and Beyoncé; Serena Williams; Kevin Hart’s wife, Eniko Parrish; Derek Jeter’s wife, Hannah; Ciara; Zoe Saldana; Pharrell Williams’ wife, Helen; and Janet Jackson all had babies.

Some couples didn’t make it. Selena Gomez and the Weeknd, Carmelo and La La Anthony, Laurence Fishburne and Gina Torres, Janet Jackson and Wissam Al Mana, Kylie Jenner and Tyga, Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian and Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill all called it quits.

But on the brighter side of romance, there were a lot of “I dos” said. Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian; Jordin Sparks and Dana Isaiah; Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa; Keyshia Ka’oir and Gucci Mane, Diana Ross’ son Ross Arne Naess and the mother of his children, Kimberly Ryan; “Orange Is the New Black” actress Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli; and the legendary Stevie Wonder and Tomeeka Bracy all got married. Cheers to everyone. Let’s all look forward to a wonderfully blessed 2018 with good health, lots of love and prosperity. Happy New Year!
