Call it a revolving door, a merry-go-round, a roulette wheel, or just Trump’s willy-nilly, haphazard leadership decisions from moment to moment, but there’s sure to be another cabinet member booted and sent packing.
Within a week, the turbulent Trump administration witnessed the departure of two key members: a top economic adviser and a person who supposedly was America’s chief diplomatic negotiator. In effect, the tumultuous seas tossing the ship of state just got rougher, and seeking a less troubled course seems impossible given the clueless Wolf Larsen-like man at the helm.
One thing for certain, Trump appears to have the henchman and woman now in the mix to reduce the turmoil and reluctance that came with the former secretary of state. He’s now apparently poised with the forces he needs to handle the planned meeting with Kim Jong-un, proceed with the imminent trade wars and undo the Iran accords.
In the name of national security, Trump is moving ahead on the miles of wall between the U.S. and Mexico, solidifying his tariff moves on steel and aluminum and continuing to roil the European Union.
Meanwhile, speaking of steel, we are still waiting for a concerted effort on improving the nation’s crumbling infrastructure, still waiting to see how the uninsured will be considered in his incoherent health plans and still waiting for a semblance of sensitivity and sensibility from the chaotic Oval Office.
If our intuition is correct, we will still be waiting for some human and humane decency from the White House well into the year, right up to the midterm elections and beyond. And, folks, you don’t have to wait that long to join the mounting resentment, particularly from the young people on gun control, to express your resistance. We are sure you’ve seen a few of the petitions calling for your signature in critical special elections as well as the need for financial support for the Democratic National Committee.
This is not the time to sit idly by on the sidelines and watch an intemperate leader determine your fate. Now is the time to exercise your democratic rights, to put a stop to the incipient fascism that becomes all the more blatant with Gina Haspel, the torture queen, the nominee to replace Mike Pompeo as head of the CIA.
Just when we thought things couldn’t get any worse, the morning has brought a new dead reckoning, and with a navigator such as Trump at the wheel we know exactly where we are and that there is nothing but doom as a destination.
For all of the reasons above and several more that space won’t allow we plead that to Make America Great Again—Trump Must Go!
