When it comes to fashion styling for the fuller figure, no one does it better than top stylist Carrie Rice. Just last Saturday, Rice put together several garments for a marvelous, informal fashion show upstairs at Ashley Stewart’s Flagship Store at 220 W. 125th St. Celebrating the launch of the store’s new spring dress collection, the event was a huge success.
What’s news for spring?
Classic cuts are important, but with a modern twist. Just about everything goes. Your comfort and feeling cool and comfortable in your clothes are the keys. Colors are bright and vibrant. Artistic prints and graphic patterns are bold. Fabrics are soft and shiny. Mix and match your prints. Dresses are news, too! The spring ’18 fashions are amazing, so enjoy putting your own style of dressing into play. Remember, clothes are costumes. The world is your stage. And you are the star.
Rice offered the following 10 styling tips for women of size:
Foundation garments are key. It’s important to wear the right under garments with your clothes to show your best shape. Have a professional help you select the proper size and fit for your bra, corsets and girdles.
When selecting a garment, understand that size does not matter. What’s most important is that the dress, pants, shirt or skirt fits your body. It must also look good on you.
Don’t be afraid of color. Black might seem to make you look slimmer. However, it doesn’t make you disappear.
Your dress or skirt lengths are important. If your calves and thighs are heavy, choose a longer length.
If you are short, be careful of wearing too much fabric on the bottom of your garment. A-shape dresses and skirts work. Depending upon your figure, a tapered skirt might flatter your figure and show your curves.
Always fit the larger part of your body first, and then work on fitting the rest of your body.
If you wear a large print, add a solid jacket or vest.
Wrap dresses are the best. They flatter all shapes.
For more pizazz, V-necklines are stylish.
Have fun with your accessories. Jewelry (earrings, bracelets and necklaces) can be bold, bright. A great straw hat always works to complete an outfit.
