The National Association of Black Journalists held its Region 1 Conference Global Diversity Summit last weekend at New York University and the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

Hundreds of media professionals and students throughout the Northeast attended the event that included a job fair, panel discussions, workshops and training.

The two-day summit focused on improving the industry’s coverage of America’s diverse landscape, promoting international dialogue through stories and media coaching and providing diversity training for all levels within the industry.

Speakers at this year’s event included AmNews Publisher and Editor in Chief Elinor Tatum, MSNBC’s Trymaine Lee, Zain Ejiofor Asher of CNN International, the Rev. Al Sharpton and NABJ President Sarah Glover.

NABJ Region I Director Johann Calhoun from the Philadelphia Tribune organized the event along with Philadelphia Tribune digital editor Nicki Mayo, Newsday reporter Khristopher Brooks and Aaron Morrison.
