Saturday, May 5, State Sen. Kevin Parker offered his support to graduating high school students by hosting his 11th annual Free Prom Dress Giveaway at the Samuel J. Tilden HS Campus in Brooklyn. With the support of sponsors such as Macy’s and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Delta Rho Omega Chapter, Parker offered more than 300 high school seniors the ultimate pre-prom experience of a free prom dress, shoes, accessories, makeup tutorials, hair styling consultations and additional giveaways from notable brands such as Shea Moisture, Karen’s Body Beautiful and radio station Hot 97.

“Every year my annual prom drive is a huge success due to the overwhelming support from various local and national brands. Prom is an exciting milestone for seniors and the students in our community need to know that their community supports them and is willing to come together to make sure they have the resources they need to fully celebrate their accomplishments. This year the event incorporated a small selection of suits for young men attending prom as well. We are excited about expanding the event to assist more families year after year,” said Parker.

“Our chapter looks forward to partnering with Sen. Parker’s office every year for his annual prom drive. Prom season is time for young women to celebrate their academic achievements, and we want to be sure to empower and motivate the students through their journey,” said Karen St. Hilaire, first vice president, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Delta Rho Omega Chapter.

This event was also made successful through the generous sponsorship of brands such as Shoe Dazzle, K2 Nail Paint, the Slim Heart Campaign, celebrity stylist Shatonia Amee and her glam squad, Nikki Phillip, Sesame Flyers International, Inc., Style & Grace Events and Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow, who supported by providing a small selection of suit attire for young men attending prom to select from.
