The Armory Foundation continues its commitment to the academic, athletic and social-emotional development of New York area youth by holding the seventh annual Uptown Games at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory in Washington Heights, Saturday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

After a multitude of track and field meets and programs for youth beginning last fall, many sponsored by the New York Road Runners as well as The Armory Foundation, the Uptown Games will be The Armory’s last event of the 2017-18 season. It is a creation of Congressman Adriano Espaillat, the New York Road Runners and The Armory Foundation.

Nearly 800 young student-athletes from Washington Heights, Inwood and Harlem, ranging from the first grade to eighth grade, will take part in a variety of competitive track and field events.

“The Uptown Games offers our students from Inwood, Washington Heights and West Harlem the opportunity to take advantage of The Armory track in Upper Manhattan, a wonderful gem right in our community that also houses the National Track and Field Hall of Fame,” said New York State Sen.Marisol Alcántara, whose office supports the games.

“The Armory is delighted to again host the Uptown Games, with the generous support of State Senator Marisol Alcántara,” Armory Foundation Co-President Rita Finkel said. “We have worked diligently all year with a number of our neighborhood partners and our elected officials in order to provide a very exciting and rewarding day for the families of Washington Heights, West Harlem and Inwood.”

In addition to Alcántara and Espaillat, Assemblywoman Carmen De La Rosa, Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez and Manhattan Deputy Borough President Aldrin Bonilla are scheduled to engage the youth and adults in attendance.
