For spring/summer ’19, Edwing D’Angelo presented a dynamic show on the terrace of Sofrito’s Restaurant in Riverbank State Park, located on the Hudson River at West 145th Street in New York City. It’s nice to be in the city and actually feel like you are somewhere else. His collection was outstanding, with European and American flare. With a backdrop of the Hudson River and the George Washington Bridge, this fashion venue was splendid for a Men’s Fashion Week show.

Last Thursday evening was a perfect summer-in-the-city evening. D’Angelo’s collection featured men’s ready-to-wear and swimwear. A Colombia-born designer now based in NYC, Edwing D’Angelo creates styles in bold and bright hues and asymmetric cuts created in distinctive metallic fabrics, with D’Angelo’s signature details. Guests at the show also received a sneak preview of the designer’s upcoming washed/distressed denim and T-shirt line that will premiere in stores next spring. His metallic gold jumpsuit, dusty rose tunic and sailor shirt received applause. The ensemble lent a touch of feminine appeal to the overall collection.

The designer’s inspiration came from his recent travels throughout Egypt. He was highly influenced by the ancient gardens of Alexandria. “I called the collection Pristine, based on my childhood love of Egypt,” said D’Angelo. “I called myself a fake Egyptologist, but I didn’t want to design anything remotely related to the majestic place until I physically had seen it myself.” He purposely decided not to base the collection on the aesthetics of the garments, but instead worked with the color palette of the landscape.

Imagine the denim blue of the Mediterranean Sea, the Egyptian sunsets and the nude/tan/earth-tone colors used by Egyptians in their hieroglyphics. All of these elements inspired D’Angelo while he created this magnificent collection. “Gold represents the desert sands,” explained D’Angelo. “The shade of white is reminiscent of the buildings surrounding the gardens in which Cleopatra once walked.”

Known for his extensive resume and prominence in the fashion field, D’Angelo celebrates a decade of being a cutting-edge designer. He is dedicated to eclecticism and luxury-styled ready-to-wear. As the Edwing D’Angelo brand continues to advance, encompassing the ever-changing spectrum of design and fashion, this designer continues to focus on cultivating strategic partnerships and developing alliances. He creates profitable platforms for himself and others designers who want to follow in his footsteps. His upcoming events include Summer Sizzle in the British Virgin Islands July 28 and Dominican Republic Fashion Week Aug. 11, and he’s working on his presentation for New York Fashion Week’s spring/summer ’19 previews.

“My future goals for the brand,” said the designer, “include procuring sustainable and viable materials, environmentally friendly manufacturing, fair labor and a dedicated focus on the continuation of positioning of my company’s brand in the forefront of cutting-edge fashion.”
