Andrew Cuomo is one step closer to getting a third term as he wins a sweeping victory against activist and actress Cynthia Nixon during Thursday’s state primary election.

Cuomo is now the Democratic nominee for the gubernatorial election and faces Republican Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro.

Other winners include Kathy Hochul who narrowly beat Councilman Jumaane Williams in close race for the Lieutenant Governor Democratic nomination.

New York City Public Advocate Letitia James is on the road to making history vas she wins the Democratic nomination in the Attorney General’s race. She faces her Republican opponent, Ropes & Gray’s co-managing partner Keith Wofford in the upcoming general election. If James wins, she will be the first African-American woman to hold statewide office in New York.
