Disney Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey and Essence magazine are back for another year, encouraging students to apply for their four-day, all-expenses-paid mentorship program scheduled from March 21 to March 24, 2019, at the Disney World Resort in Florida.

Recently, officials from the Disney Dreamers Academy were in Harlem for its “100 Minutes to Empower Your Dreams” seminar at the Schomburg Center. Students were given a tease of what it’s like at the mentorship program.

The seminar featured many different guests and speakers, such as motivational speakers Brandi Harvey and Jonathan Sprinkles; Julie Wilson, senior fashion director of Essence; and Tracey Powell, Disney executive champion, along with Avery Davis and Kayla Jackson, Disney Dreamers Academy alumni.

At the seminar, the speakers challenged students to pursue their dreams fiercely as part of the Academy’s “Be 100” campaign.

“The Disney Dreamers Academy was a life changing experience for me,” said Davis. “It allowed me to dream big and turn my dreams into reality. This helps gives kids the mentorship and guidance they need, giving them the exposure to the tools needed to achieve their goals.”

The Dreamers Academy takes 100 high school students aged 13 to 19, accompanied by parents or guardians, from across the nation and helps jump-start their goals and pursue their dreams. Anyone interested in participating in the academy should visit DisneyDreamersAcademy.com to submit an application before the Oct. 31 deadline.

Applicants must answer an essay question on their personal journeys and dreams for the future. Students are selected based on their character, positive attitude and determination to pursue their dreams.

While at Disney World, students will participate in various sessions and workshops that help them imagine bright futures, make new discoveries and put their goals into actions. In addition, students will be able to engage in a plethora of experiences side by side with celebrities, community and industry leaders and Disney cast members.

Students also learn how to improve their communication skills, what it means to be a leader and networking strategies, along with other skills. Celebrity speakers and other special guests will share their stories and provide insights on how to achieve their goals.
