It was a serious TGIF at Sylvia’s! Last week they invited me to join them in welcoming Valdo prosecco in their “home.” It was an afternoon of friends old and new, celebrating with soul food and a flight of Italian prosecco.
Guests were welcomed with a glass of Valdo Numero Uno cuvee, a dry blend of chardonnay and pinot grapes, setting the tone for a social gathering. The communal table was set with the menu and information on Valdo from Taub Family Selections (@TFselections).
Sylvia’s Tren’ness Woods-Black began the luncheon by welcoming the Valdo family and her guests of neighboring businesses, colleagues and the press. As we moved to the second prosecco, Cuvée 1926 (the year Valdo was established), she reminded us it is the same year her grandmother, matriarch of the Sylvia’s empire, Sylvia Woods, was born.
In true Sylvia’s fashion, platters of fried chicken, ribs, fish and signature sides emerged from the kitchen while Brut Prosecco Doc was poured. The whole collection of prosecco is the perfect foil to cut through the rich food.
The Valdo patriarch and proprietor, Pierluigi Bolla, arrived just in time for the peach cobbler dessert. It was paired with Valdo’s delicious Numero Uno Rosé Cuvée Brut.
Cornbread hugs and kisses, Sylvia’s! Grazie mille, Valdo!
