Next Monday, Jan. 21, starting at 9 a.m., the Plainfield Area Club of Frontiers International Inc. will host their 43rd annual Memorial Breakfast for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Plainfield High School (950 Park Ave., Plainfield, N.J.). The annual breakfast is one of the longest-held tributes to Dr. King in New Jersey.
“Dr. Martin Luther King will always be a significant leader of all people,” event coordinator John Brinkley told the Amsterdam News. “He fought for so many social issues, including equality, racial injustice and humanity. He deserves to be respected and honored. We honor him by having guest speakers who speak on his contributions to our current society, awarding honorees and providing our attendees with breakfast.”
At this year’s conference, editor of the Amsterdam News Nayaba Arinde will be the keynote speaker.
Plainfield Area Club of Frontiers International Inc. said that Arinde will be speaking on this year’s theme, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Honorees who will be awarded at the breakfast are Dr. Willa Cofield with the Westry Horne Lifetime achievement, Vicky Griswold with the Community Service Award and Danielle Tucker with the Community Spirit Award.
The suggested donation for this event is $15 for the general public and $10 for students.
