Reports indicate that R&B singer R. Kelly has posted bail releasing him from police custody in Chicago.
Kelly faces 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse involving four women, three of them being minors at the time of the alleged assaults. The singer turned himself into police in Chicago on Friday and was being held on $1 million bond, $250,000 for each alleged victim.
According to reports, Kelly had a hard time coming up with the $100,000 he needed to be released due to back rent and child support he owed. His stage appearances ceased after the airing of the in-depth documentary “Surviving R. Kelly” on the cable network Lifetime that chronicled Kelly’s alleged sexual abuse over the years.
The latest charges are the result of a video that surfaced containing what appears to be Kelly engaging in sex with a minor. In 2002, Kelly was charged with 13 counts of child pornography when a similar tape surfaced. He was acquitted in 2008 of all the charges.
If convicted of the current child sex charges, Kelly faces life in prison.
