Melba Wilson, owner of Melba’s restaurant in Harlem, was recently elected president of the New York City Hospitality Alliance.

The New York City Hospitality Alliance is a broad-based membership association founded in 2012 to foster growth and vitality in the city’s hospitality industry. It is the first association ever formed in New York City representing restaurants, bars, lounges, destination hotels and major industry suppliers.

Wilson was born and raised in Harlem and started her career at Harlem’s famous Sylvia’s Restaurant where she held many service and managerial positions. Early in her career, she also worked alongside notable industry leaders such as Chef Michael Lomanco, restaurateur Drew Nieporent and Robert DeNiro, along with the late Artie Cutler, developing the concept for Virgil’s.

In 2005, she opened her beloved Melba’s Restaurant and Melba’s Catering. Wilson is a published cookbook author who regularly appears on national news and cooking shows.
