Gathered was a fine turnout of activist, academic, social and religious notables who came out to the service for grassroots advocate Arthur ‘Lumumba’ Grant at Harlem’s Unity Funeral Chapel Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Folks such as professors James Small and Leonard Jeffries paid their respects to the lifelong political activist who made his transition Nov. 30, 2018.

Originally from Charleston, South Carolina, Grant went on to receive his masters from Columbia University, teach briefly at Brandeis High School, and became a Black Power movement organizer following the tenets of educational historians Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Dr. Yosef Ben-Jochannon and Malcolm X. Organizations he worked with/in included the Universal Negro Improvement Association and the African Pioneer Movement.
