2019 post season college basketball begins this week with the Atlantic 10 Tournament being held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and the Big East Tournament being held at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan. Both NCAA conference tournaments began yesterday, Wednesday. The Big East concludes Saturday, the A10 on Sunday.
Three local universities are participating. Fordham University in the Atlantic 10, Seton Hall and St. John’s in the Big East.
Seedings for the Atlantic 10 are: Virginia Commonwealth (VCU) at 1, Davidson 2, Dayton 3, St. Bonaventure 4, George Mason 5, St. Louis 6, Duquesne 7, Rhode Island 8, La Salle 9, St. Joseph’s 10, Richmond 11, George Washington 12, Massachusetts 13 and Fordham University at 14.
The second round of games are scheduled for today, Thursday, March 14. Rhode Island vs. La Salle at noon and the winner of Game 1 on Wednesday, March 13: No. 12 George Washington vs. No. 13 Massachusetts vs. George Mason at 2:30 p.m., and No. 7 Duquesne vs. No. 10 Saint Joseph’s at 6 p.m.
Also featured is the winner of Game 2 on Wednesday: Richmond, No. 11 vs. No. 14 Fordham vs. St. Louis at 8:30 p.m.
The A10 quarterfinals at Barclays are scheduled for tomorrow, Friday at noon. Game 7: Winner of Game 3 on Thursday vs. No. 1 VCU at noon and Game 8: the winner of Game 4 vs. No. 4 St. Bonaventure at 2:30 p.m., Game 9: the winner of Game 5 vs. No. 2 Davidson at 6 p.m., and Game 10: the winner of Game 6 vs. No. 3 Dayton at 8:30 p.m.
The Semifinals, two games are scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and concludes with the A10 championship on Sunday, 1 p.m.
The Big East seedings are as follows: Villanova, the defending champions are No. 1 followed by Marquette at 2, Seton Hall 3, Xavier 4, Creighton 5, Georgetown at 6, St. John’s 7, Providence at 8, Butler 9 and DePaul at 10.
Big East second round of games, the quarterfinals at the Garden, MSG are scheduled for today, Thursday. Game 3, Villanova vs. the winner of Providence vs. Butler (Game 1 on Wednesday) at noon, Xavier vs. Creighton at 2:30 p.m., Marquette vs. the winner of St. John’s and DePaul (Game 2 on Wednesday) at 7 p.m., and No. 3 Seton Hall vs. No. 6 Georgetown at 9:30.
The semifinals, 2 games are scheduled for Friday (teams to be announced) at 6:30 and 9 p.m. concluding with the Big East Championship on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
