The New York Jets kicked off the unofficial start of the new 2019-2020 season by introducing their fans and the world to their new uniforms at an invitation-only party in midtown Manhattan hosted by comedian/actor JB Smooth.

The evening kicked off with a red carpet event. Former Jet players like Broadway Joe Namath, Curtis Martin and Freeman McNeil were there. CEO Chris Johnson spoke during the presentation. General Manager Mike

Maccagnan held court in the audience, available there to everyone interested in speaking with him.

Top shelf libations accompanied by delicious jumbo shrimp (with a glaze sauce), chicken tai taco appetizers and chicken and waffle bites along with some other items like avocado on toast (nope) and pigs in a blanket (nope) flowed from 6:30 p.m. til 9 p.m. at Gotham Hall on Broadway in Herald Square as Jet executives and players made the introduction.

Quarterback Sam Darnold, receivers Jamal Adams and Quincy Enunwa, tight end Chris Herndon, defensive lineman Leonard Williams and linebacker Avery Williamson modeled the new uni designs onstage. They are designed in three custom Jet colors: Gotham Green, Spotlight White and Stealth Black.

“It’s a statement about the future,” said Jets President Neil Glat from the stage that he shared with Johnson, Smooth, Jet players and the large video monitors that highlighted Jet images. “I think it’s a statement about how we want to be perceived, as a little bolder, a little more innovative, and a little greater.”

But out of the mouth of babes.

Darnold, entering his second year, cut through all of the hype, the pomp and circumstance summing up the essence of what it’s all about for sports fans, especially Jet fans who haven’t celebrated a Super Bowl championship in 50 years. Four wins were all that they had to celebrate last year, Darnold’s rookie season.

“If we don’t play well, the uniforms won’t look good.”

They’ll be even more expectations now with those new stylish uniforms.
