Faux furs are in just about all of the designer collections for fall ’19. The looks are dressy, sporty and elegant. The most popular faux furs are well-designed, impeccably tailored and look like real furs.
In color, designer Nihan Onat Petree’s faux fur collection for her N’Onat brand were stylish, luxurious and they looked like the real thing. Her collection, shown in Istanbul, debuted in New York last week, and the press loved the looks and feel of this fabulous faux furs. There were a variety of shapes including jackets, quarter-length coats and wraps in long and short fur types. The look is glamorous, practical and functional.
Born and raised in Istanbul, Nihan graduated from Istanbul University in 1992 with a degree in social anthropology. Petree’s fashion career interest began at an early age. She held senior management positions in leading Turkish textile companies and, while learning the business, also worked as a freelance designer in several Turkish and European markets. She focused on leather and fur women’s outerwear. She designed garments for top designers including Burberry, Hugo Boss, Celine, Mac Douglas and other leading brands.
Working with leading Turkish manufacturers of leather and fur outerwear, Nihan gained a deep knowledge of furs, pelts and other materials. Over the years, this exposure led her to believe that an equivalent high-end fashion product could be created without having to harm animals in the process. The N’Onat brand is the result of that vision.
Nihan moved to New York City in 2014. Often, she travels between New York and Istanbul, where her garments are manufactured. For the past two years, she has been working on her first faux fur line, which contains several two-tone faux furs. The looks are feminine. Shoulder shapes stand out with wide sleeves with a variety of detailed accents. The N’Onat collection is available at www.nihnonat.com/shop/.
