The St. George NextGen Program supports and mentors emerging designers.
At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, Nextgen helped to discover and launch the fashion careers of designers Camilla and Marc, Kate Sylvester, Gorman, Sass and Bide and Akira. For resort 2020, MBFWA highlighted the exciting future of Australian fashion. Featured looks of the four winning designers were presented including Madison Hislop, Chloe Mottau, Benjamin Garg and Mndatory by Brian Huynh.
Exploring the contrast of tension and harmony, Chloe Mottau created a capsule collection that combined hand-woven techniques and new-technology. In her creative process, she scanned her favorite samples and textiles onto her HP Spectre Folio, then she explored them against her own sketches and digitally edited the sketches on her laptop to see how everything worked cohesively together.
Madison Hislop, who hails from Sydney, Australia and studied at the University of Technology, is as much a storyteller as a designer. She places quality before quantity. Her brand focuses on knitwear and soft suiting to create a uniform that celebrates the character of a woman.
On opening night, the showcase of AJE’s fashion collection exhibited raw beauty, tough femininity and cool on the runway. The AJE label is relatively young, and the iconic AJE spirit was evident in this show. The company’s co-founder and creative director Edwina Forest is at the top of her game.
