Bronx Council Member Andy King introduced a bill calling on the city through the Department of Aging to facilitate a program of free access to all New York City Transit services, including Access-A Ride, buses, trains, as well as NYC Ferry service, for New York City residents over the age of 99.

The program calls upon DOA to issue a MetroCard or other means with which to access services free of charge.

“With respect to transportation and getting around in this city, we need to make things as streamlined and simple as possible for our oldest residents trying to get around and live their twilight with dignity,” said King.

He added that centenarians shouldn’t have to worry about coins or a MetroCard or complications with Access-A-Ride.
