On Sunday, July 28, everything was about the iconic Moshood “tribal” logo on T-shirts, dresses, skirts, tunics, agbadas, pants, hats, bags and accessories.

It was about that time again. It was the 25th year of an annual tradition—but with a twist.

Moshood Afariogun has just moved from the Fort Greene 698 Fulton Street spot at the end of June, and is already bringing that cultural center vibe to Restoration Plaza at 1360 Fulton Street, in Beautiful Bed Stuy.

With hundreds in attendance Moshood celebrated 25 years in Brooklyn at their new location at Restoration Plaza. A treasured Brooklyn fixture, Moshood was honored by local politicians; Attorney General Tish James, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, State Senator Velmanette Montgomery was represented by Steffani Zimmerman, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzales, and Councilmember Robert Cornegy. Another plus delighting the crowd were Supreme Court Judge Silvia Ash and District Leader Olanike Alabi who both walked in the show wearing magnificent designs. The show included a number of creative designers, as well as the effervescent Moshood.

Longtime supporter Vanessa Lewis told the Amsterdam News, “You come to Moshood because of the style and the great quality. I have been coming to Moshood for over 20 years. He’s all I wear.”

Prior to the official opening, helping put the finishing touches to this big bright new space was artist and dance instructor, Pena Verde Capoeira. He told the Amsterdam News, “So, when I came from Brazil I met Moshood in 2011, and I could see that we were part of the same family. He has an amazing soul. It is magical here, the clothes and the art…and that is why I am here still. You see every body who comes here just loves the energy.”

This new movie, Moshood couldn’t have written a better script. It’s a perfect pairing. So with the already built stage, and huge outdoor space, Moshood told the Amsterdam News, “We are welcoming everyone to our brand-new store. Yes, we have brought our Moshood Creations family together on Sunday, July 28th, 2019, for our 25th anniversary celebration and annual fashion show. I am always happy that our community comes and shows us love. Our designers and artists always have great surprises for the community. As always it was wonderful!”

On, writer David Moore quoted Rachel Joseph, director of operations and administration at Restoration as saying, “We are thrilled to offer a new platform for Moshood on the Restoration campus! Moshood is a cultural giant in the fashion industry. His clothing encourages us to take pride in our ancestral roots. It’s a natural synergy and perfect fit with the work that we do at Restoration. As he embarks on recreating the brand and strengthening the ties to community, we envision an exciting partnership and greater community engagement.”

Moshood is located at Restoration Plaza, 1360 Fulton Street (corner of Marcy Avenue), Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. For more information, call 718-243-9433 or visit www.
