Celebrating the fading of a glorious summer, and the beginning of a promising school year East New Yorkers came together in Unity Plaza for a Saturday of fun, music, food, giveaways, free school supplies and community good vibing.

Local stars-done-good Phresher and Lil Mama came through BAMA Park to show love to their former neighbors.

“I am here because I love my community,” Phresher told the Amsterdam News as he handed out book bags filled with school supplies to young people happy to pose with the native son. “I love my people. It is important that I give back to my people.”

Lil Mama stopped briefly taking pictures with the youth, and her own niece to agree that she too “comes back because I am from here. I want to give back to my community. This is me here. I love my community.”

They performed with so many other great local artists who sang, danced and straight up entertained the community.

MAN UP INC., Community Board 5 and YOU-NITY joined a whole roster of grassroots organizations that came together to celebrate the neighborhood.
