Black women from East NewYork and surrounding locales came out to the Prince Joshua Avitto Center on Schenck Avenue for the fun and fabulous Bling a Bra breast cancer awareness and prevention event. Gems and pearls filled tables alongside all-sized bras, and glue! Hosted by East New York Restoration’s Colette Pean, and the sisters from the December 12th Movement, ladies of East New York who came out were gifted with information, fun, food and sisterhood fellowship. Jamaica Hospital’s J. Krystal Ascencio gave a presentation on what breast cancer is, treatments, prevention and resources. Amsterdam News Editor Nayaba Arinde shared her breast cancer journey from diagnosis to survivorship. As October Breast Cancer Awareness month rounded off on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019, it was a great community-inspired afternoon of awareness and survival and prevention suggestions.
