Community meeting held in Brooklyn after racist figures appear in window of white homeowner

A community meeting organized by ArtShack Brooklyn was held last weekend at Bedford Academy High School where residents discussed the posting of brown figures in nooses at the home of former ArtShack owner Dany Rose.

Reports indicate that 100 people attended the meeting to discuss the issues along with gentrification in the neighborhood. The Human Root, a professional development and consulting company, moderated the discussion. State Attorney General Letitia James and activist Kirsten John Foy also attended the meeting.

ArtShack co-owner McKendree Key said at the meeting that Rose’s decorations for Halloween were not intentionally racist. Many members of the audience and community still maintain the opposite is true.
