On Sunday, Nov. 24, the Rev. Dr. James Walker Wyns passed away. Dr. Wyns was the resident pastor at Christ United Church, which was founded by the Rev. Ike in 1962. Dr. Wyns served the church for over 45 years and traveled the world with the Rev. Ike on his evangelical crusades. Dr. Wyns died surrounded by members of his immediate family: his wife of 58 years, Jettie Wyns, and his daughter, Yolanda Wyns, who is director of the Music Department at the Harlem School of the Arts and creator of the HSA The Grio Choir, which both of her parents participated in.
Dr. Wyns’ life will be celebrated at a special memorial on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, at 3 p.m. The viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. in the grand foyer at United Palace, located at 4140 Broadway at 175th Street, New York, N.Y. The colors to celebrate will be black and gold.
