The Occasions Banquet and Catering Hall in Jamaica, Queens was the very busy venue for the 31st celebration of the annual Igue Festival organized by the Edo Organization and Bini Club. Elders opened the occasion with prayer, libation and song. The event acknowledging the end of year was held on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019. As many prepare to celebrate the world-wide African American-created Kwanzaa, Edo-speaking Bini people emphasized the age-old Igue tribute tradition. Igue is new to many outside of Nigeria, but it is an event given the blessing of the Oba (king).

This is the holiday season, where many belief systems are honored. Family and friends came out for the night of partying, African food and dancing, with popular artist Influence Akaba performing for the happy crowd.
