We watched about as much as we could stomach of Trump’s speech in Wildwood, N.J., last night, mainly to see how many Black people were there. The C-SPAN 3 camera, for the most part, was centered on Trump as he delivered his gumbo of lies and exaggerations, lulling his “credulous boomer rubes,” as a panel at CNN defined his followers, into rounds of “Send them home” and “Four more years.”

The chants of “Send them home” were meant for the immigrants from south of the wall Trump said now stretches more than 100 miles and that he promised once again would be paid for by Mexico.

There isn’t space here to list all of the false information that is part of his campaign rally message, but let’s add at least three to the estimated more than 16,000 lies he has told since running for and occupying the Oval Office.

The world knows of his tendency to inflate the size of his audiences. “There are tens of thousands of people outside,” he said of those who couldn’t be inside with the 7,500 at the convention center. In fact, according to one media service, there were only a few thousand outside, though a sizable number left when they couldn’t get in.

If Trump had it his way, it would be true that many citizens are leaving the Democratic Party and turning New Jersey from political blue to red. But Trump needs to check the latest number of registered Democrats and Republicans in the state, which we know he will not do. But if he were to he would discover that Jersey is still very blue—with more than a million more Democrats than Republicans—and that ought to make Agent Orange even redder.

We believe he may be wrong about the employment numbers, that New Jersey is doing better than ever, as well as his comments about being unsurpassed in cutting taxes.

It is simply amazing that seemingly clear-eyed people could stand for hours to hear this snake oil salesman, and, as ever, the nation continues on its divisive course with the impeachment providing us another terrible example of how far apart we are.

We returned to the broadcast, having taken a breather, to watch the conclusion of the rally and the chants of “Keep America Great!” Trump clapped his hands with the crowd, prowled along the podium, and waved to the folks with raised cell-phones, looking all the world like they were hailing the chief.

The chant from the crowd reverberated much like our own but with a significant difference when we say Make America Great Again—Trump Must Go!
