New York Fashion Week for fall/winter 2020 drew designers from all over the world. Three leading Hong Kong fashion brands made their debut on February 6 at New York Fashion Week (NYFW). The collections of Harrison Wong Limited, Heaven Please and Sun + Sen all showed Hong Kong’s fashion vibrancy.

For HARRISON WONG Limited, designer and founder Harrison Wong returns to his fascination with abstract visual art. Art inspired this talented designer to create a new style through a creative combination of classic tailoring, denim and work wear. The brand is known for simple, structured lines, yet dramatic looks. His clothes were functional, conservatively styled and fashionable. His influence of abstraction comes through in unexpected deconstruction, patchwork and dynamic color blocking. He uses matte and jersey fabrics to provide heightened contrast in this new collection. Find his clothes in L’ECLAIREUR in Paris and Harvey Nichols in Hong Kung.

The two designers for the brands Heaven Please+, Lary Cheung and Yi Chan focused on the theme: “Girl, you’ll be a woman soon.” They brought individuality to simple clothing. For f/w 2020, their collection was purposefully chosen to represent the idea of a modern woman. Their looks were often whimsical. They are known for designing many costumes for Hong Kong artists and large-scale events. Knit hats were trimmed with colorful tassels and youthful embellishments, though, they were chosen for the modern woman. Inspired by the Princess of Wales and traditional British royal costumes, the brand transforms elegant details from traditional pieces into modern day wear.

SUN=SEN’s founder and creative director Sun Lam seeks to work with something unexpected and fun, with the intention of bringing these elements into the traditional clothing industry. The designer hopes to use garments to spread a sense of optimism to the world. Her FW2020 collection was inspired by an alien character called Nice Ghost. Their message was to encourage you to express yourself and break through the stereotypes. This collection included many details including pretty polka-dots, pleats, ruffles. The collection combined space and young lady fashion elements. The line continued with the brand’s signature double sleeves and multi-wear silhouettes.
