“As was reported on Saturday, March 14th , my husband Assembly Member Charles Barron tested positive for the coronavirus, after having manifested symptoms of the virus for several days. He remains hospitalized and continues to improve.

On Monday, I was tested and this morning, I received a report that my results are positive. I am continuing to self isolate and follow protocols, as I have been since my husband was diagnosed. I have contacted the City Council Speaker Corey Johnson and I have notified my staff of my status and as per the protocols, they have been told to self isolate and closely monitor their health.

Since Monday my staff and I have been telecommuting to be able to conduct our regular Council functions. We will continue to function in that manner.

I want to thank everyone for of their prayers, well wishes and positive thoughts. My affirmation is

“I believe God” and with that grounding in faith, I know that God is working in all matters pertaining to me and my family.

Asante sana, which is Kiswahili for ‘Thank you very much’”

Councilwoman Barron is the second New York City Council Member to be diagnosed with COVID-19 after Bronx Councilman Ritchie Torres tested positive earlier this week.
