Della Hathorne of Guthrie, Okla. has a lot to celebrate as she turns 103. Aside from reaching the monumental age as a centenarian, she’s celebrating life after recovering from COVID-19.

Last Saturday, family, friends and community members took part in a car parade in front of Hathorne’s home to celebrate her 103rd birthday. To keep Hathorne safe from COVID-19, revelers kept their distance and passed by her as she sat outside and waved and cheered.

Hathorne told a local news station that the parade took her by surprise.

“I didn’t know that they were gonna do all of that,” she said.

In October, Hathorne was diagnosed with COVID-19 at the age of 102. Her son noticed something wasn’t right while giving her medication. She spent nearly two weeks at the hospital and made a full recovery. Hathorne’s story made headlines around the world.

“I just want to say, ‘Thank the Lord be.’ That’s what it is,” she said when she was released from the hospital.

Hathorne is the mother of seven children, 26 grandchildren and more than 100 great grandchildren.
